Hello Ties by Lucy family, and Happy New Year!

Reflection on 2018

Wow, I cannot believe it is 2019. Admittedly, we’re already 1/12 of the way through 2019! I want to take a moment to apologize for my time away from social media and the TBL website towards the end of 2018 and beginning of 2019.

As many of you know, Ties by Lucy is a small business is owned and operated by me, Lucy Edgar. I’m a recent college graduate living and working a full-time job in the marketing industry in Atlanta, GA. In addition to my full-time job, I handle hand-sewing each individual bow tie ordered, along with all of the company’s marketing and customer correspondence. I took the time away from TBL in late 2018 and early 2019 to focus on what mattes most to me — friends and family.

With the short pause behind me, I’m so refreshed and ready to be back full-swing in crafting bow ties that are perfect for every occasion and need. Looking back on 2018, I feel that I did so many things right. I successfully launched a Brand Ambassador program for 20+ bow-tie-loving men and women enrolled in colleges around the country. I hired Josh Grover to handle that program and relied heavily on him to operate it smoothly and effectively. I handmade bow ties for 10+ weddings and craft shows, which connected me with many wonderful people and couples in the community. I partnered with Lizzy Sutton, a talented artist out of Athens, Georgia, to make one of a kind bow ties. I successfully launched a new product on my website for man’s best friend — dog bandanas.

However, with the many ups came some downs… I struggled to manage 3+ social media accounts, my website, my Etsy, and customer requests. I neglected to connect with my consumers (and potential consumers!) on a more personal level and struggled to find my voice for TBL. I turned down opportunities that could have been really good for my business in the long run because I didn’t have the capacity in the moment.

Through the good and the bad, I learned more in 2018 than in any other year of operating Ties by Lucy. I am forever grateful for your continued support and dedication. I wouldn’t be where I am today without Ties by Lucy or its supporters.

Goals & Future Plans for Ties by Lucy

It’s a new year with new goals and new plans! And boy are we pumped! Some of our specific goals are:

  • Continue producing new products — We’re always looking for new fabric at fabric stores near and far. It’s our plan to produce new bow ties and dog bandanas throughout 2019.

  • Keep up with TBL social media + websites — This means regular posts, giveaways, partnerships, and more on our social media accounts. We plan to keep our website up-to-date with products and information, along with our Etsy shop.

  • Brand Ambassador Program + partnerships — We’ve refined our BAP incentive methods and are ready for a year full of new Ambassadors. In addition to them, we’re looking to partner with other influencers and community leaders.

  • Craft shows + local events — With 2019 comes a heavier focus on shows and events. Our best marketing is done through word of mouth, so what better way than to become more active in the community! We’re planning to take every opportunity possible to get out and about with our consumers.

  • Wedding bow ties — Our biggest goal is to become more involved than ever in the wedding industry. We pride ourselves in our custom, handmade bow ties that are specific for every wedding. It’s our pride and joy to work with a couple from start to finish and see our labor of love result in a beautiful wedding!

Thank you for your continued support of me and Ties by Lucy! We welcome any feedback and hope to serve you well in 2019. Cheers!
